The District’s Department of Public Works has issued more than 1,000 tickets for blocking the streetcar’s way since it began handing them out like candy last July. But the threat of a $100 fine didn’t stop drivers from leaving their vehicles double parked, outside the white parking line, or otherwise blocking the tracks. So then the city took to painting red stripes along the road to further warn drivers about opening doors or leaving mirrors in the forever delayed streetcar’s path.
But at least one police officer apparently didn’t get the memo, clearly parking over the white line in the 1200 block of H Street NE last night. Both the car and the streetcar were minorly damaged in the ensuing collision, a D.C. Police spokeswoman said. No one was injured, unless you count the waste of Washingtonian’s resources.
Bets on how long before this happens to one of our illustrious political representatives?
