Even Shadow Senator Paul Strauss had a car in the parade. And a classic one, to boot.

In federal court this afternoon, the latest White House fence jumper entered a “not guilty” plea and was released from custody with supervision.

22-year-old Joseph Caputo scaled and jumped over the White House fence on Thanksgiving while wrapped in an American flag, undeterred by metal spikes installed over the summer to prevent these incidents from occurring. President Obama was inside with his family celebrating the holiday.

According to his attorney, Caputo’s act was one of “civil disobedience,” because he carried a rewritten version of the Constitution when he took the leap.

From AP:

[Attorney Steven] Seeger said his client was different from previous fence jumpers, including a man who was armed with a knife and got deep inside the executive mansion before being arrested.

“He’s a young American that wanted to deliver a message of change,” Seeger said. “People have been paying so much attention to the jumping of the fence because we live in this climate of fear.”

Seeger also said in court that Caputo did not intend to take his life, as Secret Service booking documents alleged.

Caputo, who is from Stamford, Connecticut, will return to court in January. He faces a year in prison for one count of illegal entry onto restricted grounds.
