As the D.C. region braces for this weekend’s blizzard, Metro’s General Manager Paul Wiedefeld shared Metro’s service plans—or lack thereof—for Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess at a press conference this afternoon.

Metrorail will open normally and close at 11 p.m. tomorrow, and service will be suspended through Saturday and Sunday.

Metrobus, which will be operating on a “severe” snow weather plan (only on major corridors), will stop running at 5 p.m. on Friday. It will also remained closed throughout the weekend.

MetroAccess will be suspended after 6 p.m. (and outbound trips will stop at 1 p.m.) It will remain closed throughout the weekend.

Weidefeld says his key priorities are protecting the safety of passengers and employees, and getting the system back running as soon as possible.

“This is not a storm that anyone should take lightly, and I would urge all residents to plan to get to a safe place before the storm arrives Friday afternoon,” Wiedefeld said in a release. “The actions we are taking today are all in the interest of our customers’ and employees’ safety, and will help us return to service once the storm passes and the snow is cleared.”
