Things are back to normal for Metro riders this morning, with a few exceptions.
While the plan was to open all lines but the Silver Line today, Metro officials closed four Orange Line stations due to a discovery of “weather-related damage and icing issues with the electrified third rail,” according to a release. Thus, Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church, and East Falls Church are closed today. Metro riders in Virginia who rely on the Orange Line should use Ballston Station “until further notice.”
Also, Metrorail is operating on a “modified weekday service” that has trains running every 12 minutes on each line. Despite the slowdown, regular fares and parking rates are back in effect today.
Metrobus is operating on a “severe” weather service plan, which means only major routes will have bus service, and only on the busiest portions of those routes. Under this plan, 79 routes in the region are operating today (see them here). Plus, the 5A (L’Enfant-Dulles) and Route B30 (Greenbelt-BWI) are operating on regular schedule.
MetroAccess service will pick back up at noon today, although some locations may be unavailable for door-to-door service. Also, delays and service impacts are possible due to road conditions.
Here’s Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld explaining the agency’s clean-up efforts:
The D.C. Circulator will have service on three routes on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the District Department of Transportation. Those routes are: Georgetown to Union Station; Woodley Park to Adams Morgan to McPherson Square; and Potomac Avenue to Skyland.
