Mayor Muriel Bowser will lift the snow emergency on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. It’s been in place since Friday morning.
She confirmed at a press conference this afternoon that public schools will be ready to reopen on Wednesday morning.
The mayor urged people to follow the law and clear their sidewalks. While the city will begin issuing citations to businesses who haven’t shoveled their walks, residents will not receive fines this time around.
But the city has been issuing significant fines for cars parked on emergency routes. Until the snow emergency is lifted, you still can’t park your car on these roads without facing a fine or a tow truck.
Bowser and D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency Director Christopher Geldart also had some parking tips . Namely, they asked that people not park by snow banks—it results in a car parked in the middle of the street and prevents city workers from being able to clear the snow.
Geldart also continued to remind residents that they cannot save their parking spots, no matter how creatively they attempt to do so.
