Could it be? Is it really happening?
Mayor Muriel Bowser just announced via Twitter that the D.C. Streetcar will be open for passengers on Saturday, February 27th. The grand opening kicks off at 10 a.m.

The Streetcar began its final testing phase in mid-December and received approval from the D.C. Fire and EMS Department on February 11.
This comes after a decade of delays for the $200 million project, though recent developments—like a DDOT instructional video on best practices for riding the streetcar and the inclusion of times on the NextBus app—indicated that we’d soon see it barreling up and down H Street.
“Mayor Bowser charged my team with taking a failed Streetcar program and making it work for District residents,” said Director of the District Department of Transportation Leif Dormsjo in a release. “After years of overspending, mismanagement and lack of direction, we made it happen.”
The route currently goes from Union Station to Benning Road, though the mayor said the line will expand east and west.
The hours of operation will be:
Monday-Thursday: 6 a.m. – 12 a.m.
Friday: 6 a.m. – 2 a.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. – 2 a.m.
Holidays: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
(there is no service on Sundays)
