D.C.’s newest workplace comedy just came out with its first trailer.

East Coast Grow focuses on the District’s ever-evolving marijuana industry. The pilot takes place before the passage of Initiative 71, which made it legal to smoke and possess marijuana in the city.

The show’s main character is Mike, played by Theo Copeland—a lovable rascal who, even with Initiative 71, cannot be a part of the weed industry because of a previous misdemeanor possession of cannabis charge (that is part of the law).

“It’s focusing on him trying to navigate a system he knows so much about, but isn’t allowed to be a part of,” said writer/director and co-creator Amy Tasillo.

The comedic web series from Aboveboard Productions will host a screening party on April 16. That will likely be the only chance folks will have to view East Coast Grow before Aboveboard finds a distributor for it.

As of the Capitol CannaShow, filming had wrapped but editing was still well underway. “We’re not out of the woods yet, and we need to constantly tell ourselves that,” said co-creator and executive producer Matt Doherty.
