Police have made an arrest in the killing of a 15-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon on the platform of the Deanwood Metro station. The unnamed suspect, a 17-year-old, will appear in court this afternoon and is being charged with second degree murder, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a press conference this morning.
Lanier credited the arrest to the transit system’s surveillance tools. “There is no place on our public transportation system in Metro that you can’t go and be caught on camera somewhere,” she said.
A relative told The Post that Davonte Washington, a freshman at Largo High School in Prince George’s County, was on his way to get a haircut for Easter when he was attacked on the station’s platform. He was with his mother and younger sisters.
Lanier declined to say if the victim and the alleged shooter knew one another. She did say, however, that this homicide case is more senseless than others “as it appears that there’s just no reason for it… absolutely no reason,” she said.
