Surprise, surprise—when given the choice, American voters opted for Freedom and Liberty … as the name for the D.C. eaglets formerly known as “D2” and “D3.”
Today the National Arboretum announced the results of their Name the Nestlings campaign for the bald eagles born Truman-show style on the D.C. Eagle Cam in March. Other options included Cherry and Blossom, Potomac and Anacostia, Honor and Glory, and Stars and Stripes.

Will Freedom and Liberty be inspired by their names to fight the shackles of their fame? Or, like bald eagle Challenger, will they simply spread their wings to get from one handler to another?
