You were never going to be satisfied until Broadway juggernaut Hamilton made it to the shores of the Potomac, and now your Aaron Burr-like penchant for waiting for it has paid off.
The genre-bending journey through the life of America’s first Treasury Secretary will be a part of the Kennedy Center’s 2017-2018 season, according to a press release.
The exact dates for Hamilton aren’t out yet. But just as tickets to the show are famously sold out on Broadway, you gotta fend for yourself to score seats when it hits D.C.
“The best way to guarantee tickets to Hamilton is to purchase a season subscription for the 2016-2017 theater season. New or renewing subscribers of the 2016-2017 theater season will be first in line for seats in the 2017-2018 Broadway series, which includes tickets to the premiere Washington, D.C. engagement of Hamilton,” says the release.
While Chicago had the honor of being the first city for the show’s national tour, which begins in September, D.C. has the distinct pleasure of being the city where it all began. The musical’s writer and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, performed the play’s first song at the White House in 2009 for the first time. The cast returned to the president’s residence in March for another performance, including Miranda freestyling in the Rose Garden with President Obama.
If you need a dose of Hamilton sooner than the Kennedy Center can provide, try the walking tour.
