As first reported by NBC Washington’s Adam Tuss and WAMU’s Martin DiCaro, Metro is undergoing some “management restructuring.” General Manager Paul Wiedefeld announced today he is releasing 20 managers, including seven senior managers.

Here’s the full memo, provided to DCist by Metro.

Wiedefeld has made no secret of his intention to hand out some pink slips. At a contentious April hearing on Capitol Hill, the need for Metro to clean house was one of the only things everyone seemed to agree upon.

“You need to get that deadwood out,” said Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA), about making labor changes that will eliminate staffing redundancies and create accountability.

“I’m moving in that direction right now,” Wiedefeld responded. Well, it looks like he made some moves. And Tuss reports that there are more to come.

This is a big week for the transit agency, which also released its final version of its year-long maintenance plan, SafeTrack, yesterday.
