Paul Wiedefeld
took one of the toughest jobs in the area this fall. As Metro’s general manager he hasn’t shied away from making difficult choices, including shutting down the rail system for a day, implementing a huge year-long maintenance plan, and canning 20 managers on Friday.

Now, he’s getting the greatest reward known to humankind—a fashion line in his honor. “Show your support for Paul Wiedefeld, the Savior of Metro … Slashing bad management, making unpopular but necessary safety decisions, and tirelessly making WMATA better in just his first few months, Mr. Wiedefeld needs to know we stand with him,” the website says.

The t-shirts and sweatshirts all say “In Paul We Trust” on the front, with a black-and-white image of a smiling Wiedefeld. The design first gained steam on the D.C. subreddit. On the back, you have the option of text that reads “Doors opening. Step back to allow bad managers to exit” or “He’s on fire, so Metro doesn’t have to be.” Hoodies come in white and gray, and t-shirts have white, natural, pink, baby blue, and sunshine options. (Except for the female shirts, which only come in white and pink for some reason.)

According to the website, all of the proceeds benefit local charities So Others Might Eat and the USO of Metropolitan Washington in a 50/50 split.

Here’s wondering if Wiedefeld will pull a Beyonce and start selling a “Fire Wiedefeld” shirt to get Metro that dedicated funding stream it needs.
