The Metropolitan Police Department is looking into a police-involved shooting near Catholic University last night. 63-year-old Sherman Evans, who police say was later found carrying a BB gun, died from his injuries.
Police responded to a report about a man with a gun in 100 block of Varnum Street NE around 10:22 p.m., according to an MPD release. After ordering him to drop his weapon, police allege that Evans “raised the weapon toward the officers.” The officers then shot Evans, who was taken to a hospital where he later died. Police say they recovered his BB gun at the scene.
In February, police fatally shot 36-year-old Peter John after a brief pursuit and struggle. He was also carrying a BB gun.
Last night’s case remains under investigation.
