A rally is planned this evening at the White House demanding an end to police brutality in the wake of two high-profile police shootings of black men.

37-year-old Alton Sterling was killed by police outside of the convenience store where he regularly sold CDs. Video, which captures part of the altercation in which officers are seen tackling Sterling, prompted protests and a Department of Justice investigation (another video has emerged that shows Sterling pinned down by the officers, one of whom shoots him.) Less than 48 hours later, Philando Castile, a 32-year-old school cafeteria supervisor, was fatally shot while reaching for his wallet during a traffic stop in Minnesota.

“We are tired of the senseless killings and police brutality. Join us as we take a stand and hold our elected officials accountable,” organizers of the peaceful protest write. “None of us are free until we are all free!”

They added that the rally is meant to show solidarity, hold elected officials accountable, and “to push for more stringent testing and psychosocial evaluations of our law enforcers and better training for how to deescalate situations without violence.”

The protest is slated to begin at 8 p.m. on Pennsylvania Ave on the north side of the White House. More information can be found on a Facebook event page.
