Consider yourself Smoked & Stacked starting September 9th.

Chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley, the executive chef behind Ripple and Roofer’s Union (and former Top Chef competitor), is set to open her latest restaurant for lunch next Friday, according to a release from Meek-Bradley.

The menu features a number of smoked meat sandwiches and platters for lunch, notably in-house brined pastrami. Starting Monday, September 12, the spot will begin serving up breakfast sandwiches from 8 to 11 a.m. DCist food writer Travis Mitchell tasted one with pastrami, runny egg, Comte, and hot pepper jelly served on homemade milk bread and called it “Top Chef-caliber.”

The fast-casual spot enters the now-crowded 9th Street NW, which earlier this summer saw openings of Buttercream Bakeshop (which Meek-Bradley thanked on Twitter) and Chao Ku. But there were some hurdles opening at this location for the chef and partners Geoff Dawson and Peter Bayne of Tin Shop.

As The Washington Post detailed, D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs said the sandwich shop was “fast food.” Regardless of any blows to the ego, the determination impacts Smoked & Stacked because the location wasn’t zoned for fast food. The regulations were an attempt to stymie the spread of places like McDonalds decades ago, but now impact the many fast-casual spots making a home in the District.

When Smoked & Stacked rolls out the welcome mat on the 9th, new regulations will have kicked in that are less strict about what constitutes a fast food establishment.
