Ridesharing service Lyft is rolling out a new option for customers in the District who want to “arrive in style.”
It’s called Lyft Premier, and it matches riders with high-end sedans and SUVs for their trip. Introduced in D.C. and Chicago today, it’s already available to folks in New York City, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. Customers can select Premier when they pull up the app.
But putting on the ritz ain’t free. While cost varies depending on the city, “in most cases a Premier ride will cost about double the cost of a Lyft Classic ride,” according to a spokesperson for the company. During the launch, though, riders can get $10 off five rides.
Since Metro’s yearlong maintenance program began, existing ridesharing services have amped up their services and new ones have started doing business here. Given the transportation agency’s proposals to remain closed for longer even after SafeTrack concludes, it looks like the city will remain fertile ground for alternatives.
