As Christmas and New Year’s Day approach—both falling on Sundays—this will be the last weekend of Metrorail maintenance in December. And after Safetrack’s 11th surge ends next week, the year-long program won’t pick up until after January as D.C. prepares for inauguration events.
But this weekend, the surge will continue to impact the Orange and Silver Lines, with trains single tracking between West Falls Church and East Falls. Orange and Silver Line trains, as well as Blue, Yellow, and Green Line trains will run every 24 minutes. Meanwhile, Red Line trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes.
On Saturday from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m., additional Orange and Blue Line trains will operate to accommodate people traveling to Wreaths Across America at Arlington National Cemetery.
Red Line
Trains every 12-15 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Red Line trains will operate between Shady Grove and Glenmont:
- On Saturday – every 12 minutes
- On Sunday – every 15 minutes
Friday and Saturday 8:00 p.m. through close, single tracking between Dupont Circle & Van Ness-UDC to allow for preventative maintenance.
Saturday 7:00 a.m. through Sunday close, single tracking between NoMa-Gallaudet & Rhode Island Avenue to allow for station repairs.
Orange Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday

Blue Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Saturday from 7:00 a.m. through Sunday close, Blue Line trains will operate every 24 minutes to coordinate with rebuilding on the Orange, Silver and Yellow lines.
Saturday from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. additional Blue Line trains will operate between National Airport and Stadium-Armory to accommodate customers traveling to Wreaths Across America.
Yellow Line
Trains every 24 minutes between Huntington & U Street | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Yellow Line trains operate every 24 minutes to coordinate with rebuilding on the Green Line. All trains will operate between Huntington & U Street rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of U Street should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
Green Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Single tracking between Fort Totten & College Park to allow for radio cable installation.
