District residents won’t be able to take Metrorail to several downtown stations during the first weekend in February. Metro announced today that it’s planning a “major weekend work project” on the Orange, Silver, and Blue lines that will affect eight stations.
Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, Federal Center SW, and Capitol South stations will be closed. In addition, the lower level platforms at Metro Center and L’Enfant Plaza—where Orange, Silver, and Blue Line trains run—will be closed as well.
Passengers can take free shuttle buses between Foggy Bottom and Eastern Market stations on February 4 and 5. Metro advises riders who are traveling through the area to allow up to 45 minutes of extra time to their trips.
The project includes installing cell phone and radio infrastructure, fixing displaced ceiling tiles, and working to improve rails, fasteners, insulators and other track components.
Metro says it will provide more details about those service adjustments on January 21.
Officials are also expected to update riders on SafeTrack’s next surge soon—it’s slated to begin some time in February.
