The former Goethe Institut space (812 7th St. NW) in Chinatown is slated to become a location of national beer bar and restaurant chain Yard House, according to a filing with D.C.’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration. Yard House, part of Darden restaurants (which also owns Olive Garden, Seasons 52, The Capital Grille, LongHorn Steakhouse, Bahama Breeze), opened its first area location in Springfield Town Center in 2014.
Yard House is known for its extensive selection of craft draft beer from across the country. The Springfield location has more than 100 choices, including local selections from places like DC Brau and Fairwinds in Lorton, Virginia. Beers are served in sizes from small tastings up to the large 32-ounce “half yard” pour.
The address on 7th Street would no doubt draw from the Verizon Center crowds looking for a bite and a brew before games and concerts. It’s also in close proximity to the city convention center. Still, Yard House would be in competition with neighboring RFD (810 7th St. NW) as well as nearby City Tap House (901 9th St. NW).
The ABRA application lists seating for 338, a 40-seat patio and a total capacity of 538. No opening date has been set, though it’ll be at least a few months before the license makes its way through the hearing process. A Yard House spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment.
