In the works for more than five years, a new venue from the owners of the 9:30 Club officially has a name: The Anthem.
The $60 million venue will be nestled in the $2 billion mega-project The Wharf on the Southwest Waterfront. Both are officially slated to open on October 12, 2017.
The Anthem will have a capacity of between 2,500 and 6,000 people, depending on how the stage is configured. The 35-year-old 9:30 Club, by comparison, can hold around 1,200. In addition to 9:30, I.M.P. also operates the Merriweather Post Pavilion and Lincoln Theater.
“Everything my team has ever learned about the music business and venues we have put into this,” owner Seth Hurwitz told Bisnow in October. “We hope to make it the greatest concert venue in the world.”
This story has been updated to correct the date of The Anthem’s opening.
