District residents are enjoying record-breaking temperatures for warmth today.
Around 1 p.m., the National Weather Service recorded a temperature of 66 degrees at National Airport. That surpasses the record high of 64 degrees for today’s date, which was set in 2008. And it could get even warmer—the NWS forecasts a high today near 70.
By a hair, this morning’s temperature was also record-breaking, according to the Capital Weather Gang. At 48 degrees, it set a new record for warmest overnight low for today’s date, which was 47 degrees in 1904.
CWG also reports that record highs are possible today in dozens of other places throughout the country, ranging from Texas to Pennsylvania.
District residents will continue to bask in spring-like temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday, which the NWS predicts will see a high near 67 degrees.
But the unseasonable warmth will come to an end on Thursday, as the NWS forecasts an 80 percent chance of snow, possibly mixed with rain, before noon. It predicts that the colder temperatures will last through Saturday.
