There’s a place in New York City where women answer emails from papa bear chairs and work under modified pink legal lamps; where one might run into Lena Dunham or Jenna Lyons; where the blowouts are on demand. It costs $180 a month, and there’s a waitlist of thousands. Now it is coming to our shores.

The pastel-hued women’s club, The Wing, announced on social media that they are opening up two new spots in Soho and Brooklyn … and one in D.C.

“I lived in D.C. twice, and if I’d had The Wing, my quality of life would have been totally transformed,” co-founder Audrey Gelman (known as an impressive political PR pro; better known as the inspiration for Marnie on Girls) told Forbes.

The Wing opened in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, an area once known as Ladies’ Mile for the confluence of women’s clubs that were located there in the early 20th century. While its predecessors were havens in a world where women were blocked from many public spaces, The Wing is meant to be a balm for overtaxed women, a place for camaraderie, socializing, networking, and actual working.

The photos and ample press coverage convey a cross between a serene spa, a no-boys-allowed clubhouse, and a WeWork.

Gelman and co-founder Lauren Kassan, previously a director at ClassPass, raised $8 million to expand the concept within less than a year of opening the first location.

“We quickly realized the demand outpaced the square footage that we had,” Gelman told Forbes.

There’s no word on exactly when (or where) they’re coming to D.C., but would-be members can apply online (yes, there’s an application). If history is any guide, Washingtonians will be eager to be on the list for an exclusive new thing.
