This post has been updated.

Riders will have to contend with a couple of station closures, service disruptions, and delays on Metrorail this weekend as crews work on multiple maintenance projects.

SafeTrack Surge 14 will continue to shutter Greenbelt and College Park stations, so riders on the northern end of the Green Line will have to take shuttle buses between Greenbelt and Prince George’s Plaza stations. And to accommodate the surge, Yellow Line trains will run to and from Mount Vernon Square instead of Fort Totten.

Metro previously planned station closures along the Orange and Blue Lines for a ceiling tile replacement project, but the transit agency has cancelled the maintenance work and will reschedule.

Now, Orange and Blue Lines will be single tracking for cable installation, but will operate at regular weekend intervals. And Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only to accommodate work on the Orange and Blue Lines.

On the Red Line, trains will be single tracking between Grosvenor and Twinbook stations due to another maintenance project, and trains will run every 8 to 16 minutes.

Red Line

Trains every 8-16 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday

Single tracking between Grosvenor & Twinbrook to allow for rail fastener and tie renewal.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 16 minutes
  • Between Silver Spring & Grosvenor every 8-10 minutes between 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday 10:00 through close, single tracking between Dupont Circle & Van Ness to allow for preventative maintenance.

Orange Line

Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 p.m. until closing, Orange Line trains will single Track between McPherson Square & Smithsonian to allow for communication cable installation

Silver Line

Regular weekend service

Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 p.m. until closing, Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only to accommodate work on the Orange & Blue lines.

Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.

Blue Line

Regular weekend service

Saturday & Sunday from 8:00 p.m. until closing, Blue Line trains will single track between McPherson Square & Smithsonian to allow for communication cable installation.

Yellow Line

Regular weekend service between Huntington & Mt. Vernon Square only

To accommodate SafeTrack Surge #14, all trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Square rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.

On Saturday and Sunday nights, the last Yellow Line train departure time has been adjusted.

  • Last train from Huntington to Mt. Vernon Sqare will be 11:01 p.m. (33 minutes earlier than normal)

Green Line

SafeTrack Surge #14 | Line segment shutdown between Prince George’s Plaza and Greenbelt

Free shuttle buses replace Green Line trains between Greenbelt & Prince George’s Plaza.

Green Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals (every 12-15 minutes) between Branch Avenue and Prince George’s Plaza stations.

Sunday, 7:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. Green Line trains will single track between Navy Yard and Anacostia to allow for an emergency response drill at Navy Yard station.
