When it premiered in 2013, House of Cards was a moody political thriller that put Netflix on the map as an original content creator and fueled hacky ledes for pundits.

As the seasons wore on, the show taught us important lessons, like reminding D.C. denizens (journalists especially!) to keep a healthy distance from the Metro tracks while waiting for a train.

Now, in a new trailer for Season 5, the show’s vision of a family-run government with a ham at its head seems less fantastical than ever, replete with “Never Underwood” protesters.

“The American people don’t know what’s best for them,” intones Frank Underwood, the protagonist played by Kevin Spacey. “I do. I know exactly what they need.”

Does he, though? The new season premieres on Netflix on May 30.
