District residents have just a few days to find their favorite pools and cooling centers, places to sip frosé, and other ways to avoid the heat, as weather experts say sweatiness is about to set in.
The National Weather Service reports that things will heat up late this week through the weekend and above-normal temperatures will settle in for four days next week.
From Wednesday until Saturday, meteorologists predict that high temperatures will steadily increase from 69 to 85 degrees. Beginning Sunday, they expect the four-day stretch to have highs in the low to mid-90s or higher.
Some weather experts predict a high of up to 97 degrees on Tuesday, the Capital Weather Gang reports, adding that this would break D.C.’s record of 96 degrees on that date in 1954.
Calling the heat wave “the most intense and longest-lasting” this year, CWG says that humidity levels will “become more oppressive” on Tuesday and Wednesday. On those days, they say it will probably feel like 95 to 100 degrees—at the least.
