Metro Transit Police detectives are looking for other victims of a man who allegedly took photos up a number of women’s skirts at Columbia Heights station on Wednesday evening, and are hoping the public will help identify the man, who stands accused of voyeurism and sexual abuse.

The incident came to light after a woman felt a hand up her skirt as she was exiting the Columbia Heights Metro station on the escalator around 7:50 p.m. on August 2. She reported it via the agency’s online sexual harassment reporting system on Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from the law enforcement agency.

Investigators found the incident on security footage, which showed that the man placed a cell phone up the victim’s skirt, a practice known as “upskirting.” Detectives say footage shows that the man took photos of “several” other women that evening as well, who likely have no idea that they were the victim of a crime.

A Metro report about sexual harassment on public transportation found that 77 percent of people said they have never reported sexual harassment, but those aware of the agency’s public information campaign were twice as likely to report an incident.

Metro says that it has placed additional plainclothes officers at Columbia Heights and other stations, and is looking for the public’s help in identifying additional victims and the suspect.
