Metro Transit Police have arrested a suspect accused of taking photos up the skirts of as many as dozens of women at the Columbia Heights station last week, and are still in the process of identifying and contacting victims.

Brandon Lynn Williams, 19, of Forestville, Md., was arrested on Tuesday and charged with misdemeanor sexual abuse, according to Metro. He was identified with the help of an anonymous tip. Detectives seized cell phones, computers, and hard drives from a residence in Prince George’s County after getting a search warrant. Metro says additional charges in the case are likely.

Police learned about the incident after a woman reported feeling a hand up her skirt around 7:50 p.m. on August 2 as she exited the Columbia Heights station on the escalator. She used the agency’s online sexual harassment reporting system the following afternoon.

This led investigators to review security footage, and they determined that the man placed his cell phone up the victim’s skirt to take photos, a practice called “upskirting.” The footage showed that the man did the same to several other women that evening.

Metro says that it has identified and contacted “multiple” victims besides the woman who first reported the incident, but says there are “still potentially dozens of female victims” who don’t know that photos were taken up their skirts. All of the victims were women wearing skirts.

In addition to known incidents at Columbia Heights on August 2, detectives believe Williams was also at Columbia Heights and U Street stations on August 3.
