Metro Transit Police have arrested a woman who allegedly threw a cup of her urine on an X2 bus driver over the weekend on charges of simple assault.

Opal L. Brown, 38, of Southeast D.C., was riding the X2 bus on Saturday evening. According to Metro, surveillance cameras on the bus captured Brown peeing into a cup near the back of the bus.

Then, right before she got off the bus at the Minnesota Ave and Benning Road NE stop close to 6:15 p.m., she threw the urine-filled cup around the protective shield and onto the bus operator before fleeing the scene, according to surveillance footage.

The bus driver, who was an adult female, was taken to a local hospital for decontamination, Metro says.

Before detectives arrested Brown around noon on Wednesday at L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station, she spoke on the phone with NBC 4’s Adam Tuss.

“I was provoked. I hate Metro,” Brown, a mother and grandmother, told NBC 4. “”I’ve been catching Metro for 35 years. They’ve never done shit for me.”

She admitted to NBC 4 that she relieved herself on the bus, but she said she hadn’t intended to throw the urine on the driver. “I had to go to the bathroom real, real bad,” she said. “I just peed in a cup.”

But Brown said that the driver “said ‘Have a nice day’ all sarcastically. She could have been more courteous.” That’s when she threw the urine.

She told NBC 4 that she felt bad about it, and hopes to apologize to the driver.

While new Metrobuses have Plexiglass protective shields for drivers, who have faced a rising number of attacks, the union that represents most Metro employees wants WMATA to do more.

“We see the ineffectiveness of the bus shields and it needs to be addressed, and it needs to be addressed immediately,” says David Stephen, communications coordinator for Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689. “I’ve heard about spitting incidents, certainly we’ve heard of physical attacks, but this may be one of the most disgusting incidents that I’m aware of.”
