July 13 marks the start of the District’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game celebration, and there’s a lot to know. For five days, the city will be transformed into a mecca of baseball and baseball-adjacent events, with sports fans arriving from far and wide to partake in the festivities.
Here are the answers to all your burning questions about the upcoming week.
What MLB events can I attend?
The All-Star game, which features the best of the American League and the National League duking it out for bragging rights until next year’s game, takes place on July 17. But if you haven’t already jumped on that, tickets are sold out. You can, however, still plan to watch the game somewhere cool: The Farm on M Street SE is having a rooftop watch party from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The ticket price is $25, and includes an item from Smoked & Stacked.
But the game is just the culmination of a week of events. They include the Color Run MLB All-Star 5K on July 14, which includes a “foam blaster area” and “super-hero inspired course elements.” The run takes place in Yards Park and you’ll need $5 to pick up your race packet the morning of the event, according to the site.
There’s also the All-Star FanFest, which is happening from Friday through Tuesday at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It’s the “largest interactive baseball theme park in the world,” according to MLB, and will feature appearances by pros—some of whom will even be giving clinics. (You can see the schedule of appearances here). Tickets are $35 for adults and $30 for kids 12 and under. You can buy your tickets here.
The Home Run Derby, another fan favorite, is happening at Nats Park at 8 p.m. on Monday July 16. Players will compete in a single-elimination tournament to see who can hit the most home runs into the stands. Tickets are running now for $240, and include a ticket to the All-Star FanFest on either Monday or Tuesday. You can buy them here.

Where should I eat (and drink)?
Good question. For those of us less inclined to direct participation in MLB activities, there are plenty of D.C. restaurants offering a low-stakes way to take part in the festivities.
Brasserie Beck is having an All-Star Beer Week with $5 beers, including Stella, BOM Full Moon, Right Proper Astral Weeks, Star Hill Northern Lights, and 3 Stars Ghost. Bayou Bakery Coffee Bar and Eatery in Arlington will be serving up something called PorKorn (spicy cracker jacks) and stadium-style hot dogs (except fancy—andouille sausage with creole mustard slaw).
In Navy Yard, Declaration is serving hot dogs inspired by major baseball cities (D.C., Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and St. Louis) for $8. If you’re looking for something a little more upscale, District Winery will be opening their rooftop terrace up and serving an All-Star wine flight for $14 on July 13 (5-10 p.m.) and July 14 (2 p.m. – 8 p.m.).
Okay… what else?
Movies galore. The American History Museum is hosting an All-Star Baseball Film Festival from July 12-15 at the Warner Brothers Theater, and they’re showing titles like “Moneyball,” “Field of Dreams,” and “42.”
Also, Yards Park will be having outside screenings of “The Sandlot” (July 15, 9 p.m.) and “A League of Their Own” (July 12, 9 p.m.).
I don’t care about any of this. How bad are traffic and parking going to be?
