Redskins Suspend Albert Haynesworth For Rest Of Season

Albert Haynesworth, who has to be one of the National Football League's all-time leaders in conversation created/actual time spent playing ratio, has been suspended by the team for the remaining four games of the the season. Haynesworth's final 2010 statistics: 8 games, 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks, $14.3 million earned. It sounds like the messy, expensive marriage between the defensive lineman and the team finally hit a breaking point. The Redskins released the following statement made by Head Coach Mike Shanahan: "Yesterday, when Albert was at Redskin Park, he told our General Manager Bruce Allen that he [Haynesworth] would no longer speak with me. Although suspending any player is not a decision that a head coach enters into lightly, I believe the situation has reached the point where the club clearly has no alternative." Redskins Accused of Tampering in Haynesworth Signing

According to a Yahoo! Sports report, the Tennesee Titans are claiming that the Redskins tampered with free agent Albert Haynesworth before the official opening of the free agency period. The 'Skins outbid several other teams to sign the hefty defensive tackle to a nine-figure deal mere hours after he was eligible to be inked to a new contract; the Titans are claiming that due to the illegal Redskins negotiations with Haynesworth, they were unable to fairly tender an offer to their former star defender while he was still with the team. It's an incredibly difficult accusation to prove, but if Tennesee succeeds, Washington would forfeit a draft pick -- likely in the later rounds. The last proven tampering case cost the San Francisco 49ers a fifth-round pick in 2007. more ›
