In the event you haven't yet watched the video that was released by an attorney for one of the University of Maryland students who claims he was beaten by Prince George's County police officers last month, take a minute to do so now. You'll recall that 27 people were arrested on March 3 in the wake of post-game celebrations in College Park -- celebrations that by all accounts got out of hand. But this video is really quite damning, and has in fact already led to the suspension of at least one and a criminal investigation against a total of three sworn officers. more ›

Hannah Sentenced to Six Months in Beating Death

The tortured case of the beating death of gay Maryland man Tony Hunter has at last drawn to a close, as D.C. Superior Court Judge Rafael Diaz sentenced defendant Robert Hannah, 19, to 180 days in jail on Wednesday, the Washington Blade reports. The sentence represents the maximum jail time allowable for Hannah's conviction on a misdemeanor assault charge. Hannah will also get credit for time served, the Blade says, which is about two months already. Hunter's mother told the paper she was "not pleased" with the outcome. There has been much public outcry on the reduced charges to which Hannah eventually was allowed to plead guilty, but ultimately a grand jury did not find sufficient evidence to pursue a manslaughter charge. Friends of the victim have maintained that Hunter was beaten in an unprovoked attack that may have been an anti-gay incident. more ›

Elderly Man Dies After Random Attack

Well this is absolutely horrible. A 76-year old Southeast D.C. man died earlier this week after being attacked and beaten by two young men, WJLA is reporting.

Clarence Dews was walking along Martin Luther King Avenue when two guys ran him down with a bicycle before slamming him over the head with a club. He died a few days later from blunt force trauma. more ›
