We've frequently called the end of cupcakes. But we might just to make an exception in the case of the pork cupcake. Yes, you read that right, pork cupcake.
The Weekly Feed: Out With The Old, In With The New Edition
Spring always brings to mind renewal and other regenerative symbols. This is also the case at Bourbon Steak inside the Four Seasons. With King of Porc champion David Varley called upon to act as corporate chef on the left coast for chef and boss Michael Mina, spring has brought new executive chef Adam Sobel and new pastry chef Brent Balika to show off their new menu and all the bounties that the Vernal Equinox provides.
A Magical Wonderful Animal at Bourbon Steak
Chef David Varley of Bourbon Steak was anointed the King of Porc at this year's Food and Wine Classic. To celebrate, Bourbon Steak will be hosting an all-you-can-eat pig roast on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 3-6 p.m. For $25, you can get some awesome piggy (although probably not as awesome as Madame Lardofly's outfit up there); for $40, your feast will allow you access to a selection of some of the more unique Dogfish Head brews. Call 202-944-2026 to make reservations.
Chewing the Fat: Bourbon Steak's Michael Mina
Now that we know the outcome of the 2009 Capital Food Fight to benefit D.C. Central Kitchen, we have to wonder whether Chef Michael Mina was laying it on a little thick last week when he said he was scrambling to try out some recipes that he could whip up in 10 minutes. Mina wound up the big winner at the Iron Chef-inspired cooking competition, seizing the title from former two-time champ Barton Seaver and out-slicing, -spicing and -dicing the likes of Bryan Voltaggio, Mike Isabella and others. When he sat down to talk with DCist earlier that day, however, he was just hoping to make it past round one.
What's Your Sign?
We know it can be hard to approach that fine young thing sitting at the bar. And that's why Bourbon Steak has been trying to improve their patrons' game with hopefully slightly less embarrassing consequences. They've come out with a series of 10 coasters with classic pick up lines that you can slyly flip over and slide to your neighbor. Each coaster has a convenient spot for writing down your phone number. The current ones include favorites such as, "Are you legs tired? Because you have been running through my mind all night," and, "I couldn't help noticing you, noticing me, noticing you."
