Maybe we're cheeseballs, but we love the Annual Turkey Ceremony, the moment when the president "pardons" a lucky turkey (plus an alternate) who then becomes the official National Thanksgiving Turkey and gets to spend the rest of its days on some farm at Disneyworld or something like that. Sure, it's capricious and cutesy, but who cares! Turkeys are funny looking, and presidents posing with turkeys are even funnier. This year will mark the 60th anniversary......

According to Forbes magazine, the Washington Capitals are the third most worthless team in the National Hockey League. This is a big step up from last year, when they were number one! Of course, being businessmen and not hockey fans, the boys at Forbes have failed to take into account the kinds of younger, developing players that the Caps hold, ready to carry them to success either this year or in the immediate future. If......

Allez Cuisine! From Jack Abramoff's Signatures to his own restaurant, Farrah Olivia, Morou Ouattara plans to step into a new venue. His eye is on Kitchen Stadium as he competes for the title of the Next Iron Chef. The first episode airs Sunday, 9 p.m. on the Food Network. Eight chefs with the help of Lufthansa Airlines (yay product placement!) will be traveling through Europe and competing against each other to join Mario Batali, Cat......

We're gobsmacked that we forgot to mention Tim "Make it Work" Gunn's planned whirlwind visit to the District this weekend. A native of Washington, he's a veteran of Corcoran College of Art + Design and hit the big time as a mentor to aspiring designers on Bravo's oddly addictive Project Runway. Along with co-author Kate Moloney, Gunn comes to town promoting his new fashion manifesto, Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste, and Style.......

In a game that could only be described as a battle, D.C. United and CD Guadalajara fought to a 1-1 draw last night at RFK, thanks to a Luciano Emilio goal in the 91st minute. In front of a raucus 26,528 (last year's largest crowd was 24,150), the majority of which were Chivas supporters, the two teams clawed, pushed, and hacked their way through the inclement conditions (rain, 44 degrees). The game featured various......

United's got a big one lined up tonight. Waiting at their doorstep is CD Guadalajara, better known as Chivas. One of the most storied clubs in the Mexican soccer, Chivas have 11 league titles under their belts, currently a record. They also have the distinction of only using Mexican players throughout their history. Tonight's game is the first leg of a home-and-home series, the semifinal match in the CONCACAF Champion's Cup. U.S. teams have......

Last week, Top Chef returned to the Bravo network for a second season, complete with a new host and a fresh-faced group of hungry culinary hopefuls. And one of this season's contestants on the excellent cooking competition — which pits aspiring cooks against one another in immunity and elimination battles to win $100,000 in prize money, a feature in Food & Wine magazine, an appearance at the Aspen Food & Wine Classic, Kenmore PRO appliances,......

"A reality show about fashion?? That sounds horrible!" Tim Gunn shared his famous last words with a packed auditorium last night at the Corcoran, a nostalgic homecoming for this former student and administrator of the school. I've yet to meet a Project Runway fan who doesn't adore Gunn and his witty mentoring of the show's designers, and his lecture did not disappoint. Though some listeners may have been slightly disheartened to hear very few words......

Remember the NBC show The Law Firm that premiered at the end of July? No? No wonder. DCist recalls a big build up of advertising and then the show simply disappeared after two episodes. NBC pulled the show for low ratings, but has found it a new home, Tuesday nights on Bravo. The Law Firm "features real lawyers competing against each other while trying real court cases with real clients, in front of real judges......

We know our readers were probably too busy watching Johnny Damon (yay!) hit a grand slam and may have missed a few key plot points of last night's episode of the West Wing, but not to worry! DCist proudly introduces the first installment of our We Watch So You Don't Have To series. Consider it a public service dear readers, because really, the way this show is going there's no need for all of us......
