For those who anxiously refresh DCist in anticipation of the next [food item]pocolypse, your patience has paid off! Empty stomachs in search of sustenance before an evening of waddling around in costume, take note: Chipotle is definitely doing their annual "dress like a burrito -- or you know, just throw a whole bunch of random bits of foil on your person and we'll be so busy that we won't even care -- and you'll get a free burrito" Halloween promotion. (Personally, I'm a fan of the "Mega Man" strategy of covering the forearms with burrito-wrap, but don't let me tell you how to express your own inner burrito.) You'll be hard-pressed to find an easier giveaway all year -- just grab whatever foil is sitting around in your kitchen drawers and hit up one of the numerous local Chipotles after 6 tonight.

We've written a number of times about how we'd like to see more diverse food carts in the city and how the permitting of carts has been the biggest barrier to diversity. But Food Chain DC's Coite Manuel has found a way to get around that problem. He has established relationships with existing hot dog vendors to sell his simple, quality food alongside them. Manuel currently has three locations, at M Street between Connecticut and 17th St NW, at 14th and New York Ave NW, and at North Capitol and E Street NW, with more planned. You can check their Twitter feed as more are added.
Pedro and Vinny's burrito cart reopened at its old location at 15th and K Streets NW on Friday. The popular cart, operated by owner John Rider, closed late last year when Rider left town, but at the beginning of this month Rider announced he was coming back, much to the delight of nearby downtown office workers.
After the attempted transfer and eventual closing late last year of downtown favorite Pedro and Vinny's Burrito Cart, it looks like owner John Rider is back in business. In an email sent to his fans, he says it's "a long story," but he is very excited to be moving back to D.C. with his family. He plans to be back in business at his regular location this week or next week. Burritos and goose (mango-habanero) sauce will remain the same.
