Click Click: The 2010 Capital Pride Parade and Festival

             + 8 more

The District was the place to be this weekend, unless, that is, you were trying to drive around town. A World Cup party on Saturday morning and afternoon, capped by the annual Capital Pride Parade in the evening, followed by the Capital Pride Street Festival today. Always one of the more colorful and vibrant events in the District every year, the 2010 vintage of Capital Pride was absolutely no exception. Good thing our Flickr pool contributors and DCist contributor Crystal Park could battle the heat to to capture the jubilation on camera. more ›

World Cup Celebrants, Pride Parade to Mix at Dupont Circle

Oh, this should be an interesting intersection of events! According to The Washington Blade, a "World Cup event, called Soccer in the Circle, will take place inside Dupont Circle on June 12, the same day that the Capital Pride parade will travel along the circle’s perimeter as 10,000 people walk in the LGBT parade or watch from the sidewalks." more ›

Wale Backs Out of Black Pride Amid Homophobia Accusations

The Washington Blade reports on a potentially very ugly turn of events for rising homegrown rap star Wale. It seems the musician was originally slated to perform at this year's DC Black Pride festival, part of the annual Capital Pride events, but has since pulled out, claiming that he "didn't know Black Pride was a gay-related event when he agreed to appear." more ›

RuPaul to Headline Capital Pride

RuPaul to Headline Capital Pride

This year's Capital Pride street festival will close out with a dose of hair, heels and attitude. WTOP reports that the Capital Pride Alliance - you may recall they beat out two other groups to produce the annual event this year - announced RuPaul as this year's headlining act. The entertainer will perform on the festival's main stage on Pennsylvania Avenue on June 14. RuPaul rose to fame in the early 1990s with the single "Supermodel (You Better Work)," and currently hosts RuPaul's Drag Race on Logo. Her most recent album, Champion, dropped in February. more ›

Who Should Pay for Security at the Gay Pride Festival?

The Examiner reports on a $36,000 bill received by the organizers of the 2007 Capital Pride Festival from the D.C. police and the Emergency Management Agency, who say they need the money to pay for overtime and other costs for security incurred during the June festival. But the festival's organizers and some members of the D.C. Council are questioning the charges, since the agencies waived these same fees last year and other annual parades, like... more ›

Tenth Annual Norton Job Fair is on Tuesday

Are you a resident of Washington, D.C. and looking for a new job? D.C. Tag Your Videos with 'DCist'

Above is one of the many short videos we found on YouTube from this past weekend's Capital Pride Parade (and if dancing men dressed as cowboys in short shorts isn't safe for your work, then this is NSFW), and it got us thinking. We couldn't be happier with the community of excellent photographers that's developed out of our DCist Flickr Pool. But we like running funny, interesting, or beautiful videos just as much as... more ›

Photo of the Day: June 11, 2007

And on a procedural note, don't forget that if your photos on Flickr are not set as downloadable, it's hard for us to use high resolution versions as Photos of the Day or in posts, even if they're tagged with "dcist" or in the DCist Photo Pool. If they're set to downloadable you'll see an "All Sizes" link above the photo. That's not the case with this photo, just a general reminder. Thanks! more ›

Go Home Already: Free to be You and Me

>> In case you missed this story in the Washington Post this morning, it seems another one of D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton's favorite long-term projects, expanding the District's Home Rule Charter to give the District budget and legislative autonomy, is actually getting some play up on the Hill. We can't even count how many times she's introduced bills like the two currently before the House, but it's been at least 15 years since Congress... more ›

Written by Adam Bailey Hey Washington, it's Pride Weekend! Webb Wins Virginia Primary: Jim Webb, a war hero who only recently became a Democrat, handily won Virginia's Democratic primary yesterday, reports the Post.
