Carjacking Investigation Snarls Washington Circle Traffic

An investigation into a carjacking snarled traffic near Washington Circle for some time this morning. A MPD spokesperson tells DCist that police responded to a call for a carjacking in the area at 10:29 a.m. -- the spokesperson also confirmed that police had made an apprehension in connection with the crime. According to a witness who lives in the neighborhood, a section of K Street NW between 26th Street through the tunnel under the Circle was closed for about an hour, as police swarmed the proximity. more ›

D.C. Police Officer Exaggerated Carjacking Story

Remember the other day when a D.C. police officer said he'd been carjacked in Baltimore? Well, it turns out the whole thing didn't go down quite the way he said it did. Officer Kevin Carey, who a little Googling reveals is a member of the Fifth District's vice unit, originally said that a woman and an armed man had stepped in front of his 2009 Dodge Magnum, ordered him out and made off with the vehicle. But the Associated Press (via WTOP) reports that Carey now admits that he actually picked the woman up to give her a ride in exchange for $10. When he stopped to get gas, the suspect, 18-year-old Keara Moodie, waved another man over to the car and the two drove off together, according to the AP. more ›

Sen. Corker's Daughter Carjacked Near Verizon Center

Julia Corker, the daughter of Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), was carjacked Wednesday night at an intersection near the Verizon Center, WJLA is reporting. Corker was reportedly driving her Chevy Tahoe in D.C.'s Chinatown neighborhood at about 9:30 p.m. last night when a suspect allegedly got her to roll down her window before pulling her out of the car and throwing her to the pavement. Politico has more, noting that she was not seriously injured in the incident, and that Sen. Corker was apparently eating dinner at a nearby restaurant at the time. more ›

D.C. Police Seek Single Suspect in String of Crimes

D.C. police today released a pair of photos and a composite sketch of a man they believe to be responsible for a bevy of crimes across the city in the last month. Among the crimes police are attributing to this one guy are the robberies and/or car jackings of six different taxi cab drivers in the month of September alone, plus the Sept. 22 armed robbery of the Lowest Price Gas Station in the 2800 block of 12th Street NE. more ›
