Eating In: Au Natural Edition

Eating In: Au Natural Edition

This week for Eating In we thought we’d venture a little out of the city, but not too far and still metro accessible, to the ever-expanding area of Chevy Chase. Right off Wisconsin Ave. is Lia's, the little sister to the Chef Geoff’s restaurants. Chef Geoff Tracy's inspiration for Lia’s came from an internship he completed at Galileo’s, combined with a trip to Italy — and decided to open a restaurant that is focused on... more ›

Hamburglar?

Hamburglar?

In honor of National Burger Heritage Awareness Month, our favorite Internet travel buddy Gridskipper opted to run a post lauding the awesomeness of Washington's hamburgers. We have no quarrel there; they are awesome, and we feel it completely appropriate to exalt their bovinity. Hmm. Bovinity. Where have we heard that word before? Bovinity, bovinity, bovinity, bovinity... But Gridskipper's list is certainly respectable — incorporating true burger all-stars like Colorado Kitchen and Tallula — even if... more ›

Out and About: Weekend Picks

Out and About: Weekend Picks

FRIDAY: >> January at 9:30 Club tends to be a no man's land of lots of dark nights with the occassional local line-up thrown in for good measure. So we think it's great that Taint, DC9's weekly queer dance night for electro-indie goodness, and Black Cat's popular Bliss have ganged up to create INFAMY, a late-night dance fiesta featuring DJ Will Eastman and New York's DJ Bill Coleman, with special guest Daisy Spurs. Doors open... more ›

Brew at the Zoo

Brew at the Zoo

By DCist contributor Celeste Dawn Mitchell Two thousand of the khaki crowd's finest came out to party Thursday at Friends of the National Zoo's Young Professionals' (or FONZ YP's, if you will) sold-out Brew at the Zoo. Proceeds went toward its Asian elephant conservation project. Just in case patrons forgot they were partying for a cause, four-ounce fill-lines on souvenir mugs intimated that this was a classy tasting affair, not a frat kegger. Though... more ›

Chef Geoff Opens Restaurant Not Named After Himself

Chef Geoff Opens Restaurant Not Named After Himself

If the crowds at the two editions of Chef Geoff's are any indication, namesake owner/chef Geoff Tracy knows how to make elegant but simple and tasty food accessible to people who want to eat well without getting attitude. So when we visited LIA’S -- Tracy's new Chevy Chase restaurant -- we expected nothing less, even if it was the restaurant's first day of business. Although LIA'S (yes, it's all caps) is Tracy's third foray into... more ›

Helen Hayes Awards Recognize What They Did For Love

Helen Hayes Awards Recognize What They Did For Love

Sure, there probably aren’t too many office pools going around wagering on whether Scott Bradley will take Tony Cisek in the set design category. But lack of watercooler chatter aside, tonight is an important night for the D.C. theater community. more ›

Afternoon Elections Update

Since we're still a few hours from any elections returns, here's a roundup of what's going on across the nation.. >> Gothamist reports that there have been long lines to vote. Similar reports have been echoed on LAist, SFist and Chicagoist. Chicagoist editor Margaret Lyons even relates her voting experience this morning, which involved slipping and falling in front of her polling place. >> Chicagoist also writes about Celeste Wroblewski, a Chicago mom who started... more ›

Poll: Chef Geoff Gaining on Bush

Poll: Chef Geoff Gaining on Bush

DCSOB points out a poll showing Ralph Nader only five points behind President Bush in the District of Columbia. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is way ahead. DCist would like to point out that although Kerry is way ahead, Chef Geoff Tracy, husband of NBC's Norah O'Donnell, is gaining on President Bush. When we checked on Monday, the Georgetown graduate was only down by 10-15 votes at the 13th Street Chef Geoff's. We don't know if... more ›
