PETA Will Unveil "Giant, Inflatable" Elephant To Protest Circus

PETA Will Unveil "Giant, Inflatable" Elephant To Protest Circus

We realize that many of you are not fans of the elephant march that wound its way through the streets of Washington yesterday. (We're not passing judgment either way -- we just feel an obligation to inform people when a large group of pachyderms begin stomping around Capitol Hill.) But don't you worry: PETA stands ready to strike back. According to one government source we spoke with, PETA had actually asked the D.C. government to shut down yesterday's march, but it was too late. Instead, the animal rights group will "confront circusgoers" with a "giant, inflatable 'elephant'" that "will lead PETA's contingent of nearly 100 protesters" tomorrow morning. more ›

Check our map of the elephant parade route to see if the animals are heading toward you. more ›

Pachyderm Parade Set for March 17

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is back at the Verizon Center March 18-22, and with it comes the annual parade of elephants through the city. The route for the animals will begin on Tuesday, March 17 at Garfield Park, then head north on 4th Street SE to Stanton Park, then west on Massachusetts Ave NE to Columbus Circle NW, then finally toward the Verizon Center via E Street NW, 3rd Street NW and G Street NW. If your home or office is near the walk route, tentatively mark your calendars for a 10 a.m. pachyderm parade start time (subject to change, call the Animal Walk Hotline, 1-866-683-3670, for updates that morning). Since the elephant walk is happening on St. Patrick's Day this year, the animals are indeed expected to wear green and bring along their own bagpipe player. more ›
