Arlington County Police released this YouTube video over the weekend showing the suspect responsible for Friday's armed robbery and shooting at the Clarendon Apple Store. The video doesn't show a particularly clear shot of the suspect's face, but does offer at least a basic description to work with (and it doesn't show the actual shooting, in case you were worried about watching it -- the suspect can merely be seen entering the store, holding a gun to the victim, and then they walk out of view of the camera). Below is the info included with the video.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on July 3, 2009, an unknown man rang the doorbell at the service entrance to the Apple Store in the 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard. An employee walked to the back of the store to answer the door. A short time later, another employee heard a gunshot. The victim, a 26 year old female, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the right shoulder. The suspect had already fled the area on foot. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.

Planning on using your day off to make a stop at the Genius Bar or finally pick up that new iPhone? Might want to head to Pentagon City, instead. NBC4 is reporting some kind of armed robbery occurred at the Apple Store in Clarendon, located in the 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard, this morning, though details are still scant. At least one person is reported to have been injured. We'll update when we hear more.

In the event you had been planning on stopping by The Apple Store, Pottery Barn or any other chain retailer in the same shopping center in Clarendon today, you will want to call first before heading over. The popular retail center, located at 2700 Clarendon Blvd. adjacent to the Market Common apartments, has been struggling with electricity issues for the past two days, and stores along one half of the mall have been closed since Monday due to the outage. Workers installed a large truck-based generator this afternoon to restore power temporarily, and an employee at Pottery Barn told DCist at 4:30 p.m. that they hope to open in the next hour, once the rest of the team reports to work. The Apple Store was closed when this editor went by around noon in the hopes of getting her laptop repaired. Employees at the Pentagon City Apple Store noted that they have been twice as busy as normal today due to overflow customers coming in from Clarendon.

Have you seen this Washington Independent post (City Desk picked it up, too) about a bizarre letter that's been circulated to Clarendon residents who are displaying Obama signs in front of their houses? The unsigned screed accuses (presumably white) neighbors who are outwardly supporting Barack Obama for president of only liking the candidate due to some inner need to prove to people that they are not racist. It's pretty disgusting, and would be more upsetting if it didn't read as though it was probably written by someone who needs to be medicated. According to the Independent, a neighborhood email list has blown up with comments speculating who might be responsible. Any Clarendon residents (or any other areas of Northern Virginia for that matter) actually get one of these things?

A couple weeks ago we linked to a post on popular Clarendon bar Galaxy Hut's MySpace blog announcing that owner Lary Hoffman had decided to stop accepting credit cards. The announcement sparked a number of agitated and sarcastic comments accusing Hoffman of passing on unnecessary extra costs, like ATM fees, to his customers. Thanks to the negative reaction, over the weekend Hoffman emailed us and posted a comment on the same thread saying he'd changed his mind.
