Fun little tidbit to close out the week. The Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum today acquired an 8-foot-high lighted star from New York's Coney Island’s now closed space-age theme park, Astroland. They sent over the above image of them receiving the actual star this afternoon, which shows Curator Margaret Weitekamp and Exhibit Designer Rebekah Brokway supervising their staff as they measure the Star. The Astroland Star will be on display at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center in 2011. You can see the sign where the star used to be on Coney Island here. more ›

The Roosevelt's debut EP is a bit like the FDR Memorial: A lot of people out there will say, "There's a Roosevelt memorial?" while others will keep trying to persuade their friends and family to check it out. The comparisons pretty much end there. Our 32nd president led the country through the Great Depression and most of World War II. The Roosevelt are just trying to make a name for themselves in the D.C. music scene. Their self-titled debut should help move things along. more ›

Torontoist immediately wins our heart by using the word "Jackass" in a headline. In fact, we love their use of it so much that we're going to use it as much as possible throughout this post. For example, it looks like there are Toronto-area jackasses besides those who misuse the sidewalk: look at the crap on sale on Toronto's craigslist.
