The Sunday Morning Post

The Sunday Morning Post

Good morning, Washington. At 2:00 am, Daylight Saving Time ended, Standard Time began, and we were granted an extra hour of cherished sleep. The bi-annual shift is much less tedious now that so many devices that keep the time are automated. Still, some people detest what they see as an antiquated ritual. more ›

Switch to Daylight Saving Time Will Affect Metro Service

Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend, bringing with it the glorious bounty that is an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings. But don't forget that when the clocks move ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14, it will suddenly be 3 a.m., and the Metrorail system (not to mention most D.C. bars) will close. more ›

Metro Will Still Close at 3 a.m. on Saturday Night

We're set to fall back one hour this weekend, when Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1. For Metro riders who will be out celebrating Halloween that night, WMATA has just put out its regular reminder that it will still close at 3 a.m. on Saturday night/Sunday morning, despite the time change. That means that there will technically be an extra hour of Metrorail service on Halloween night: when the time goes back an hour at 2 a.m., it'll be 1 a.m., and you'll still have two more hours of ghoulish fun left before the last trains leave. more ›

Morning Roundup: Good Morning Sunshine Edition

Morning Roundup: Good Morning Sunshine Edition

Good Monday morning, D.C. Since we get up early to skim the day's headlines, we couldn't help but notice that today was one of the first days since we switched to Daylight Saving Time that the sun was up before we were. Not to mention that it's already staying light until 7 p.m. We love this time of year, when suddenly, as things get steadily warmer, we're filled with a desire to get outside and... more ›

Fox 5 Blogapalooza at Busboys and Poets

We'll explain what the blogging revolution is all about, why more and more people are blogging and show you how to create you own blog. Aww. They need to explain the "blogging revolution." Isn't TV News adorable? It should be noted the event is also a once in a lifetime chance to catch this DCist editor at her most vulnerable: not quite awake and about to go on live TV. Who wouldn't want to check that action out? more ›

Fall Back This Weekend

Fall Back This Weekend

This Sunday marks the end of Daylight Saving Time, so when the last call bell rings at 2 a.m., set your watch back an hour and buy everyone another round. Any excuse for an extra hour of partying is fine with us, so let's toast to Ben Franklin, but do it ironically, since he may have come up with the idea just so people would go to bed earlier. more ›

Spring Forward

Spring Forward

The first Sunday in April is almost upon us and that means it's time to spring forward once again. Daylight Saving Time, one of those weird, man made government sanctioned conventions, begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, so set your clocks forward one hour. Unfortunately, this DCist, never known for her punctuality to begin with, has been an hour behind on more than one occasion. Rather then bemoan that one hour of sleep we'll be losing, we try and look at the bright side here. Originally suggested by Ben Franklin and adopted during World War 1 to conserve energy Daylight Saving (and yes, we checked, it's "saving" not "savings") Time is another herald of spring and the warm weather that's sure to get here eventually. Take heart DCers, the lazy days and long nights of summer are just around the corner. more ›
