So, a little while back, a DCist editor may or may not have—but totally did—compare this websites comment threads to a very unsanitary place. But comparatively, perhaps DCist commenters aren't so bad.

News From DCist HQ: I'm Leaving Soon
It's been nearly a year and a half since I was named the editor-in-chief of DCist. In that time, I have learned so much about this place, had several incredible experiences, and have worked with some of the most passionate, creative, intelligent people in the District. That's what makes it so difficult to announce that I'll be soon be moving on.

DCist Falls Just Short at 'Critique the Critics' Competition
Eight critics entered the ring on Saturday night at Arlington Arts Center, and only one exited. Okay, so AAC's "Critique the Critics" fundraiser was more of a friendly competition than bloodsport, but the evening didn't end without some folks getting their hands dirty. It's just that it happened to be with finger paints.
And Now, A Brief Publishing Note
You may have noticed a slight change to the way DCist looks today. Following the lead of our sister site in New York, we've now transitioned the default front page of the site to the "pretty" view. We've slightly refined the view since it launched earlier this year, increasing the size of the lead story images, adding more posts and generally making it more elegant and readable.
DCist's Turn To Grill The At-Large Candidates
We're only one week out from the day the District will select its new at-large Councilmember in a special election -- but that doesn't mean you've run out of time to educate yourself about the candidates in the race. Hardly! And tonight is just as good a time as any; after all, who better to guide you through where the candidates stand on the issues than our own Martin Austermuhle?

The 2011 DCist Reader-Staff Pool: We Have A Winner
Last night's NCAA men's basketball national championship game was, well, downright terrible – not that it mattered to Erin Murphy. Her bracket – which impressively foresaw Butler's Cinderella run to the Final Four, as well as the Huskies' triumph – came out on top of DCist's fifth annual Reader-Staff Pool.
