Perhaps it’s time to change up the old routine. Maybe, instead of coming home from work and snuggling up on the couch with your block of aged cheddar, smoked gouda, a knife, and a box of Triscuits, it’s time to take your cheese habit to a more refined setting.

He loves me; He loves me not; He loves me... We may be making history on DCist today, all. I don't know if a food photograph has ever been selected as POTD, but it's bound to happen if you let the foodies fill in. This photo of some delicious bresaola from LaTur leaves me feeling both hungry and jealous. Hungry because it's lunchtime, and jealous that I won't be enjoying a platter of cured meat this noon hour. Almost as delicate as rose petals, these thin slices of meat are prosciutto's much less salty, more complex flavored bovine cousin. If you haven't tried it, look for it on menus at places like 2Amy's (which is where this photo was taken), Dino, Sonoma, or at your local meat counter or cheesemonger (Cheesetique in Del Ray has a particularly good version). Kudos to our DCist photogs and their great food photography! EXIF.

It's a slow beginning to the week as every venue in our purview seems to be dark Monday and Tuesday, but it'll give us all a good chance to refuel before the '07 concert season kicks into high-gear later this week. Recently, we’ve forsaken the tranquility of a typically lazy Saturday morning in favor of madly dashing off to the Del Ray Farmer’s Market in time to snag a coveted loaf of Bonaparte Breads’ Pain Normande. A perfectly rustic bundle of yeast and flour, the Pain Normande is fully loaded with tender pieces of dried apple, black and golden raisins, and walnuts. Sure, plenty of local bakeries purvey a range of fruit-studded handmade loaves, but none...
Rain or shine, this weekend brings opportunities to eat and drink aplenty, particularly if you’re planning on hanging out in the ‘burbs.
It appears to be duck day here on DCist.
NoVa Empire Expands
This has been a pretty slow food week for the Washington area. Sure, some chefs have left their posts, and some chefs published masturbatory recipes in recently "revamped" magazines. These things happen all the time. Nevertheless, DCist seeks to sniff out the news anyway.
Just when we thought it was safe to go get some frozen custard, corporate evil rears its ugly head yet again. Del Ray institution, the Dreamery, is being forced to change its name by Integrated Brands, Inc., the folks who make Edy's. "Integrated Brands." What kind of name is that? Apparently the kind that hates fun. And freedom. Anyway, Dreamery owner Liz Davis is holding a contest to come up with a new name. Fortunately, the name change will have no effect on the custard or the monthly brat[wurst] nights. The winner of the contest gets free custard for a year. "Suck It, Edy's" has already been submitted, so don't even try.
Recently, DCist was invited to sample some of the dishes at Tallula, in suddenly bustling Clarendon. Fans of the departed Whitey's will be startled by this newcomer, in the former space of Whitey's and owned by the same group as the Evening Star Cafe in Del Ray and Vermilion in Old Town. Gone are the pool tables, dart boards, and broaster. In their place: a beautiful three part dining and drinking space, the adjoining wine retailer Planet Wine, and a modern American menu conceived by Nathan Anda, formerly of Equinox.
