Yup, you read that right. A Wheaten Terrier got elected as the president of the Hillbrook-Tall Oaks Civic Association in Annandale, VA. How exactly did this happen? Well, former president, Mark Crawford, had served as president for three terms and couldn't run again by the civic association's bylaws. No one else would step up to run, so Crawford put up his dog, Ms. Beatha Lee, as a candidate and she won. He described her as "a relatively new resident, interested in neighborhood activities and the outdoors, and who had experience in Maine overseeing an estate of 26 acres." more ›

Woman Who Left Dog Outside For Days Charged With Animal Cruelty

A 24-year-old District woman was arrested last week after leaving her three-year-old dog, Slim, tied to the back door of her home on the 100 block of Elmira Street SW in July. Washington Humane Society investigators say that Michelle Terrell left to visit family on July 17, and decided to tie the dog up behind her home -- Terrell didn't come back to check on the animal until July 20, by which point Humane Law Enforcement Officers had attended to the dog, who had died from heat exhaustion, after a tip from a neighbor. Terrell has been charged with animal cruelty. more ›
