Classical Music Agenda
With holidays this week, there isn't much going on in classical music. So that your Classical Music Agenda can take an Easter vacation, today's installment covers the next two weeks.
White House Easter Egg Roll Dates, Lottery Details Announced
I'd argue that any wishing for spring in the nation's capital is wildly premature until three milestones are met: the opening of spring training, the announcement of the peak cherry blossom bloom, and, of course, the online rush to snag tickets to the annual parade of adorability and occasional terror which is the White House Easter Egg Roll.
Sunday Reason for the Season Photo: April 4, 2010
The determination and devotion captured in this Good Friday photo by Edward Hoover strikes me as simultaneously sweet and frightening. Maybe the word is "awesome." A happy Easter to all those readers who find succor in the story of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. For many believers, this Easter comes at a difficult time, with the revelation of decades of Vatican misconduct casting a shadow over the Church's most important holiday. Still other Christian organizations have taken the holiday as an opportunity to rally Christians behind a message of social justice. Reflection on past sins and looking forward to new good deeds both seem appropriate to the day.
White House 2010 Easter Egg Features Jogging Bunny
If you didn't manage to snag tickets to this year's White House Easter Egg Roll, you can at least order some commemorative eggs and pretend like you were there.
White House Easter Egg Roll Date Announced
Hard to believe spring is right around the corner, but the Obamas are here to make it seem more real: they've announced the date of this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll. The popular annual event will take place on Monday, April 5.
Meet Your New Peeps
A Peeps store at National Harbor sounded pretty absurd on its face. What does a Peeps store do once Easter is over and the Post's uploaded its last Peeps Show image?
Click Click: The 2009 White House Easter Egg Roll
Traditionally, the White House Easter Egg Roll has been attended mostly by D.C. area families who camped out early with their kids to score tickets to the free annual event. But on Monday, the 2009 White House Easter Egg Roll played host to over 30,000 people from 45 states and the District of Columbia, thanks to a new online ticket distribution plan put in place by the new administration. Local parents grumbled, but 4,000 tickets were also distributed separately to students from D.C., Maryland and Virginia public schools. DCist photographer Meaghan Gay was there to capture what an Easter Egg Roll hosted by the Obama family looks like.
Sunday Knuckle Sandwich Photo: April 12, 2009
Doesn't this photo get right down to the inimitable, inimical violence at the heart of Easter? Who doesn't have great memories, and maybe more than one scar, that began with a pair of brass peeps? Too bad spiggycat doesn't have a shot of a traditional Easter egging. Or a good old-fashioned Cadbury creaming.
Um. The White House Easter Bunnies Are Terrifying
Behold the male version of the White House Easter bunny, pictured here with President Bush this morning at the annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn. Can you imagine being a 5 year-old kid and having that thing coming at you? Free Ride has a photo of the female bunny, which it accurately describes as "hallucinogenic-looking." Granted, virtually all giant plush costumes could make any child cry, and we all know white rabbits are tough to pull off without making most of us think of drugs, but wow. That is one scary looking bunny.
