DCist Exposed Special Event: Emerge Exposed

DCist Exposed Special Event: Emerge Exposed

One of the goals we've developed for the DCist Exposed Photography Show is creating a casual venue to explore art. This is both for new artists who are finding their footing as photographers, as well as new art enthusiasts, who feel comfortable enjoying the classics in D.C.'s many museum collections, but may be unsure where to start when it comes to supporting the arts locally. We want Exposed to be a great avenue to start your art collection – by offering artwork featuring something you love (a piece of D.C.) at a relatively low price point, allowing new patrons to support new artists. more ›

Emerge Exposed Panel Discussion Next Tuesday

Emerge Exposed Panel Discussion Next Tuesday

While you can still stroll through the DCist Exposed Photography Show anytime during Long View Gallery's regular hours until March 21, we still have one more big event before the show closes. Pink Line Project's fantastic Emerge Exposed: Photography for the Emerging Collector panel discussion is back for its third year, featuring three great people from the local art community who will discuss that other side of the art exhibit: purchasing a piece for your very own. Art buying can be a confusing, intimidating task if you've never done it before, so the panel will give you tips and ideas and be available for all your questions, including information about framing, image quality, and heck, how do you even know what you like enough to actually take home with you? more ›

Thanks for Making the 2010 DCist Exposed Show Our Biggest Yet

             + 8 more

We had a feeling that by holding the 2010 DCist Exposed Photography Show at the 5,000 sq. ft. Long View Gallery, we'd encourage a few more people to attend the opening reception this year. But we're not sure we were emotionally prepared for Saturday's big event to draw close to double the number of people who showed up last year. Eager early birds started lining up outside the door half an hour before the gallery even opened, peering in through the windows as we hurried to finish setting up the bars and music. By the end of the evening, roughly 1,800 of you made it inside, drinking and yes, even dancing through the night with us surrounded by 47 gorgeous photographs that celebrate the best of Washington, D.C. more ›

DCist Exposed Photography Show opens Saturday, March 6

That's just eight short days from now! It's time to get excited, folks. Next Saturday, March 6, from 6 to 10 p.m., we'll be at Long View Gallery to celebrate 47 fantastic photographs that each showcase our city in a different way. More than an art show, DCist Exposed is a celebration of local talent: the awesome photographers who contribute images to DCist, and the faithful readers (that's you!) who click through to see them every day. more ›

Photo of the Day: March 4, 2009

Big thanks to the nearly 70 people who made it out last night for Emerge Exposed, our panel discussion for the DCist Exposed Photography Show. Brian Knight Photography took this wide angle shot as people filtered in to Flashpoint's Mead Theater Lab to take their seats (and also gave his own live-tweet of the discussion, cut and pasted to his Flickr caption). You can see our four panelists waiting to share their knowledge about all things photography, and I, for one, can say I learned a ton this year. Thanks to the Pink Line Project and the Cultural Development Corporation for organizing this event again for us. more ›

Emerge Exposed Panel Discussion Next Tuesday

As you know, you can see the DCist Exposed Photography Show at Flashpoint anytime from Tuesday through Saturday, 12 to 6 p.m. through March 7, but we have one more big event associated with it. Last year we asked the Pink Line Project to hold a panel discussion during the exhibition, to talk to people about how and why one should buy art, particularly photography. The event sold out quickly and was packed with useful information for artists and patrons alike, so we asked Pink Line, in partnership with the Cultural Development Corporation, to come back and do it again this year. more ›

As far as any of us are concerned, there's only one art event going on this weekend that should be on your calendar. (Okay, that's not entirely true; we've got your abbreviated agenda below.) more ›

Last Day of DCist Exposed Tomorrow

Last Day of DCist Exposed Tomorrow

The 2008 DCist Exposed Photography Show has been quite a ride this year. We started with nearly 600 fantastic entries, giving our judges the tough job of picking only 47 winning images. We watched people line up down the street to get into our packed opening reception. The folks at Civilian Art Projects have watched a constant stream of visitors come into the gallery during their regular opening hours. Wednesday night we teamed with Civilian and The Pink Line Project, who put together a fascinating panel to discuss what it means to become a collector to a standing-room only audience. And this year we've received a humbling amount of mainstream press about the show (with only a little bit of old school balking at the notion of one of those things on the intertubes curating an art show). more ›

It's just over 24 hours until the 2008 DCist Exposed Photography kicks off at Civilian Art Projects. Join us to celebrate and support our local talent before they all become wildly famous and we have to put their work in the "boy, I wish I could afford one of those" column (that would be the column you'll see below). The free reception is tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m., no RSVP required. All the works are for sale at reasonable prices, so bring along your checkbook or contact heather [at] dcist.com for purchasing info. If you're interested in attending the Emerge Exposed panel, RSVP to info [at] pinkline.org quickly, because seats are almost filled. more ›
