From the files of the surreal: visual evidence of a grossly inaccurate Metro pylon which has been erected in Charlotte during the filming of a D.C.-based TV show.

Covert Geography
The District is hungry for revenue. Film and television producers have money. Logically, it only makes sense for the city's brass to try and court them to film here -- which would explain why Mayor Vince Gray is taking some time out of his busy desk work schedule this afternoon to visit the set of Covert Affairs.
J. Edgar Hoover Biopic To Shoot In D.C. This Weekend
It's shaping up to be a rather busy weekend around the District. In addition to the first weekend of the National Cherry Blossom Festival and the National Marathon (we'll have more on that later), there'll be a big-time movie shoot going on. According to the D.C. Office of Motion Picture and Television Development, the Clint Eastwood-directed, Leonardo DiCaprio-starring J. Edgar Hoover biopic J. Edgar will be filming on Saturday and Sunday in "downtown D.C."
Georgetown Wants Your Townhouse, All Our Souls
In February, we heard about the next television show featuring life in the District. Georgetown is slated to be a "primetime soap about young people behind the power brokers of D.C." We have a little update now, via this reader-submitted image of a letter that went out to Georgetown residents a couple weeks ago.
Ask DCist: Who Was Filming In Dupont Circle This Morning?
Several tipsters emailed us this morning to let us know that there was a film crew, "replete with police cordons and director's chairs," putting images to celluloid this morning on R Street NW between New Hampshire Avenue and 18th Street NW in Dupont Circle. So who was it? Were there any big stars in the area? Don't get too excited: D.C. Office of Motion Picture and Television Development spokesperson Leslie R. Green informs DCist that the filming was just for a D.C. Lottery commercial -- and nothing incredibly exciting, like Alexander Ovechkin shooting pucks off the roof of a local Capital One Bank.
Transformers 3 Filming Scheduled For October 11-15
The District Department of Transportation emailed this afternoon to let us know that Michael Bay and company (along with their sweet, sweet money) will film Transformers 3 on location in Washington next week. Filming for the third cinematic installment of the Great Decepticon-Autobot Conflict will begin on Monday, and based on street closures and parking restrictions, the shooting will be contained on the Mall. (Looks like Bay may have gotten his wish to film a bunch of historical stuff blowing up after all.) Filming in D.C. will wrap on the 15th, so be sure to bring your camera with you if you're near the Mall next week.
Click Click: Adams Morgan Movie Shoot Gathers a Crowd
The number of people at the corner of 18th and Columbia Tuesday night looked more like what you'd expect on a Saturday night. Except that it was as bright as day. From around 9 p.m. to well beyond midnight, a sizable crowd gathered on the sidewalks that weren't in use by the teeming film crew to get a close-up view of the complexities involved in making a big-budget film.
Wanna Be In A Movie?
NBCwashington reports that Nationals season ticket holders -- the bloated throng of humanity that they are -- will get first dibs on the chance to be extras in the upcoming Owen Wilson/Reese Witherspoon flick, which has a working title of How Do You Know? (Honestly, the news that the film will apparently contain scenes of actual baseball -- instead of the two blonde actors just talking about their feelings or whatever -- is probably the real news here. Also: Paul Rudd.) Filming at Nationals Park begins in two weeks. If you're really desperate to be in a James L. Brooks rom-com but somehow don't possess Nationals season tickets, you can go wait in line at the park -- auditions will run on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Considering that individuals who have the disposable income to buy Nationals season tickets likely don't have a desire to waste time standing in the background of a movie scene for five seconds, folks in line might have a half-decent shot.
Yeah, Probably Not The Best Time and Place To Film
It seems as if the producers of the upcoming HBO series based on the Washingtonienne book by Jessica Cutler decided that the pilot really needed some authenticity - the show's crew was spotted by several DCist readers and contributors while shooting scenes last night in Adams Morgan. Apparently, the crew blocked lanes of traffic on 18th Street and a significant portion of the sidewalk.
Two Big Movies Shooting in D.C.
The pretty people are descending upon our city. A couple big movie shoots are in town, so if you're into that sort of thing, now's your chance for an Affleck or LaBeouf sighting.
