Whether you're a little bit Iggy or a little bit Moby; whether you breathlessly await each L'il Wayne mixtape or whether pop music ceased to interest you the year the Beatles stopped touring and Dylan went electric (in which case, congratulations on figuring out this old Internet), there was something to your taste at the third edition of the Virgin Mobile Festival this weekend. Not just something, actually: A lot.

It seems like just yesterday we were scratching our heads and wondering what this mythical "v fest" creature we'd heard of could possibly be. A large-scale music festival that doesn't require a plane ticket? Our brain grapes were smashed at the thought! The first year (a one day event headlined by The Who and the Flaming Lips) went over well, and last year's bigger, better and greener approach was another notch in Richard Branson's belt. We already knew that this year's festivities would happen on August 9 and 10, once again returning to Pimlico racecourse in Baltimore. Now we've got the first signs of life: a list of headliners.
The green-ness of the station comes mainly from environmental news pieces that the DJs read about things like solar power, renewable energy, and the use of cow dung for flooring. Their Web site also notes the station's transmitter is run on renewable energy and they have a lot of links for various ways to do good stuff for the planet.
Born from a high school friendship, The Chance is the product of years of tooling around on instruments and mucking with the lineup. As they stand today, the band is Joshua Padgett on lead guitar and vocals, Viraj DeSilva on drums and Finley Martin on bass. The band's gone through several incarnations over the years, but Padgett and DeSilva are the constants. They grew up together, cultivating a friendship and learning how to play. As...

A night of highs and lows for the latest West Wing. The episode picks up where we left off last week, with Josh and Donna rushing to the hospital to check on Leo. Annabeth meets them and tearfully (what's up with her raccoon eyes?) tells them Leo died. It's sad sad sad. Josh is pretty stricken with the news. Later, C.J. has to tell President Bartlett, and it's equally moving. While the scenes were well done, I can't help but wish that Aaron Sorkin had been around to write Leo's death.
The big day finally arrives, in more ways then one. It's Election Day and the Santos and Vinick campaigns are tense, tense, tense. The show opens with some pre-credit flirting between Josh and Donna. After the credits, we're treated to a shot of Josh and Donna in bed, together, presumably post-coital. I'm a long time Josh/Donna shipper but the scene was more than I wanted to see. There's some mild awkwardness between the two, but...
Oh sure, everyone gets devastated when Belle & Sebastian or the Foo Fighters sell out, but we all know the REAL tickets to have this summer are going to be to Monty Python's Spamalot!, opening June 6. According to the National Theatre's own brand of spam - that is, its courtesy alert list - those anxious to get tickets before the rush Feb. 26 can visit BroadwayOffers.com or call 800-872-8997 and mention the code "SLTCX44"....
A couple of months back we posted information on a pre-sale for tickets to see the Foo Fighters in a special, one night only show at the 9:30 Club. Needless to say, our decision wasn't met with kind words from the band's "real" fans, who proceeded to leave us all types of dirty comments and even went as far as to post the address of yours truly on a 9:30 Club Forum thread. So when...
FRIDAY:
Today will be positively depressing - cloudy with patchy drizzle with highs in the low 60s. What do you have planned for the weekend? Dropping by the New Pornographers (or the Foo Fighters)? Stopping by the D.C. Flickr group's Georgetown show? We'll have our full picks later today. Preparations for 'Millions More': Area officials are preparing for crowds for this weekend's Millions More Movement, an anniversary commemoration of the Million Man March. A number of...
This really is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. We have a secret. We feel, as the quasi-journalist wannabees that we are, that the public has a right to know our secret. Then again, every other time we have disclosed similar secrets, we've gotten full in-boxes worth of hate mail. This one has sat for long enough, though, and word is filtering out already. So please, easy on the hating.
The fall lineups are filling in, and it's looking like a nice autumnal concert season for indie fans, all kicked off by the perfectly free Operation: Ceasefire mass gig on the mall September 24th. Sadly, most of the other highlights require tickets, and it falls to DCist to bring you the hottest of the hott. Watch D.C.'s own (for the moment) Bob Mould, sometime Blowoff DJ and indie rock icon, as he returns to the...

This evening at 7 p.m. Judith Martin, aka Miss Manners, will be talking about "Miss Manner's Guide to Excruciatingly Exact Behavior," her newly updated book about modern-day etiquette. >> The Dulles Expo Center gets busy today with the weekend-long Sugarloaf Craft Festival. You can buy everything from well-engineered teddy bears to wood art. Check...
It's officially official: The HFStival, which we mentioned earlier was rumored to be taking place on May 14 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, is on. And you know what? We think the line up is pretty sweet (certainly the best in several years, at least):
If you've grown up in the D.C. metro area, you've probably heard of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (better known simply as TJ). The school, located in Alexandria, is a Fairfax County public school that was turned into a magnet school for technology in the early 90s.
