On a cold day, it doesn't get much better than tucking into a creamy bowl of cheese grits, topped with plump shrimp and maybe some bacon or andouille sausage. Somewhere between a stew and porridge, shrimp and grits is like a Southern answer to risotto.

Two local eateries found their way on to the Food Network's primetime lineup Monday night. The Devil-Ish Eggs at Founding Farmers were singled out on The Best Thing I Ever Ate, while Diners, Drive-ins and Dives stumbled upon pork pupusas and chicken tamales at Tortilla Café adjacent to Eastern Market.
D.C.'s Best Breakfast at Founding Farmers?
We find out via Eater that the July/August issue of Food Network Magazine named the best breakfasts in each of the 50 states and the District. For D.C., the magazine lists Fried Chicken, Eggs and Waffles at Founding Fathers [sic] Farmers.

Vietnamese food is one of the quintessential DIY cuisines. Drizzle a little of this or that sauce. Scatter some herbs. Choose some vegetables. You control the sweetness, sourness, spiciness and crunchiness. And one of the best examples is banh xeo, a golden-colored crispy rice crepe loaded with pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts.
