What is it about fox attacks that seem almost funny, when they should be downright scary? Is it because foxes are smaller and cuter than say, mountain lions or bears? We can't help but notice that we've noted a number of rabid fox attacks in the region over the last few years. There was the one in Herndon in 2004, the one just last month in Arlington, and now NBC4 reports that another rabid fox has been captured in Gaithersburg.

A Gaithersburg woman called animal control on Sunday after a rabid fox chased her and her dogs while they were on a walk.

Metro has taken its share of heat this year for the way it's handled crime on its trains and in stations, so it's not surprising that the agency sent out a triumphant press release this morning announcing the arrests of five people in connection with a robbery and assault on Dec. 9 that may have been fueled by homophobia.

It wasn't a very merry Christmas for Michel Morauw, the manager of the Park Hyatt Washington Hotel. NBC4 reports that an MPD officer shot and killed Morauw's dog on Monday in a small park adjacent to Rock Creek Park at 24th and N Streets NW.

Good morning, Washington. Think good thoughts for Tian Tian, the National Zoo's male giant panda and the biological father of Tai Shan/Butterstick. Tian Tian underwent eye surgery yesterday to remove inflamed tissue from one of his third eyelids. He's expected to make a full recovery, but in the meantime he'll have to live with the shame of being the one to expose this whole pandas having third eyelids monstrosity. DCist has always held a firm editorial stand that pandas are adorable, but after learning this fact we may have to convene our board to reconsider.

Good morning, Washington. We hope not too many of you were making your way into the city from Montgomery County this morning, as two separate water main breaks forced road closures in Takoma Park and kids to get the day off from school in Germantown. According to FOX News, bastion of all things important and impartial, it's true: Michael Jackson and former mayor/D.C. Council member Marion Barry have become good friends recently after being introduced by their mutual friend and publicist, Raymone Bain. Yesterday, we learned that former mayor and current D.C. Council member Marion Barry would be honored with a wax statue of his likeness in the new D.C. version of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. And of course, we joked about placing Hizzoner's statue in any number of court or hotel room settings, playing up his 'Bitch Set Me Up' milieu while paying tribute to his superheroic invulnerability to getting into any real trouble. But leave it to FOX 5 to uncover the shocking truth: in fact, Madame Tussaud's is likely planning on placing the Barry statue in a 'Scandal Room' that would also feature statues of Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.

The last time DCist reviewed a Morrissey concert -- in September of 2004 -- the Mighty Mozzer had canceled two shows in California the week before taking the stage at D.A.R. that night.
